Sewer Pipe Lining Project

The City of Covington has taken the opportunity to piggyback on a Jefferson Parish contract with BLD Services and Insituform to provide the services necessary to complete the City’s capital improvement pipe lining project.  “Pipe lining repairs our subsurface sewerage collection lines utilizing a camera to locate small leaks, cracks and tree root invasions, cleans the inside of the pipe, then discharges a quick-curing liquid material that coats the pipe walls. This process basically provides new pipes from the inside out,” Gina Hayes, Director of Administration.

This much needed project is vital to the City’s ongoing infrastructure maintenance and improvement plan, and is currently taking place in downtown Covington with an estimated completion date of May 30th, pending weather delays.  The work crew averages one to two blocks per night depending on the damage found.  In an effort to minimize the inconvenience, the work is taking place from 7pm to 7am.  Residents may hear the hum of the vacuum truck while work is underway in their block.  Upon completion of the project, the City is in a much better position to enhance its services to the community, avoiding infiltration of storm water into our sewerage system.
