Mark your calendars for the City of Covington’s annual Old Fashioned Family Fourth celebration on Saturday, June 30, 2012. This wonderful family event, always held the Saturday before the Fourth of July, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Bogue Falaya Park, 213 Park Drive in downtown Covington. This year, attendees will enjoy patriotic music, followed by a breathtaking fireworks display beginning at dusk (approximately 8:45 p.m.), courtesy of the Times Picayune and the City of Covington. LA Partyart will also provide free face painting for the kids. The Kiwanis Club will be selling traditional concessions, including hot dogs, burgers, nachos and soft drinks. Attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic. This event is free and open to the public.

Runner’s Choice has partnered with the City of Covington for the Family Fourth Fun Run & Walk, which will begin at 6 p.m. in Bogue Falaya Park, just before the Old Fashioned Family Fourth event. Registration begins at 5 p.m. Attendees may take part in a half-mile run or a 2-mile walk. Proceeds from the Fun Run & Walk will help purchase a new flag and flag pole for Bogue Falaya Park.
