Covington Bicentennial Kickoff Extravaganza - August 30
Enjoy an action-packed Bicentennial kickoff event on Thursday, August 30, 5:00-8:00 p.m., at the Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire Street. Join Covington High School and St. Paul’s School as they “play” tribute to the City of Covington’s upcoming 200th birthday with a battle of the bands.
Then, around 6:00 p.m., Kermit Ruffins and the Barbeque Swingers take the stage in true “Rockin’ the Rails” fashion. BBQ and beverages will be available for purchase at the event. Proceeds benefit the Covington Bicentennial Committee. There will also be free face painting for the kids provided by L.A. Partyart. Admission is FREE. Bring your lawn chairs.
“The City of Covington and the Covington Bicentennial Committee are kicking off the Bicentennial Season in grand style! There are plenty of surprises in store for the whole family at this event,” says Pam Keller, Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Special Projects Director.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring their old photos of “Historic Covington” to the kickoff. The photos will be submitted into the Covington Bicentennial Postcard Contest, and the winning photos will be used to create a series of Bicentennial commemorative postcards, which will be sold at various local outlets. All photos will be returned to their owners after the winning photos are selected.
