Covington PD Arrests Convicted Felon on Multiple Narcotics and Weapons Charges

On March 6, 2025, the Covington Police Department arrested Tyler Palmer, 37, of Covington, on multiple narcotics and weapons charges following a traffic stop.

On the afternoon of March 6, 2025, a Covington Police Department officer with the Traffic Enforcement Unit observed a black Toyota sedan disregard a stop sign at the intersection of West 29th Avenue and North Florida Street. A traffic stop was initiated, and during the course of the stop, K-9 Officer Maou, a narcotics detection canine, was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics.

During the arrest process, Palmer attempted to discard a bag of powdered cocaine that was concealed on his person.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of the following items:

  • 62 grams of marijuana
  • 4 grams of counterfeit oxycodone pills testing positive for fentanyl
  • 1 gram of crack cocaine
  • 3 amphetamine pills
  • 1 oxycodone pill
  • 1 hydrocodone pill
  • 5 THC vape cartridges
  • 1 semiautomatic handgun
  • A digital scale and plastic bags consistent with narcotics distribution

Palmer, a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

  • Four counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Narcotics
  • Four counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Narcotics
  • One count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • One count of Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of Narcotics
  • One count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • One count of Obstruction of Justice

Palmer was transported to the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center, where he was booked.
